Roy Hartling is a Canadian photographer who worked and lived in Montreal. He worked primarily in back and white, making occasional forays into colour. His photographs bespeak his great attention to fine printing and attention to light and tonality.

Hartling was living in Montreal, where he taught at Dawson College. He worked primarily in back and white, making occasional forays into colour. His photographs bespeak his great attention to fine printing and attention to light and tonality. In his recent work he takes advantage of contemporary technology and brings to that medium all his traditional concerns for the printing process. His photographs can be found in numerous important private and public collections including the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Nova Scotia, The Canada Council Art Bank in the nation’s capital, and the Photographer’s Gallery in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
